A Tour of Palermo's
Gardens |
Meet our driver and guide to start the visit of Palemo.
Our visits this morning
include the Palatine Chapel, a superb example of
Arabian-Norman architecture built in the period 1130-
1140. Nearby is the church of St. John of the Hermit
which was built by Roger II in 1132. The features of the
structure are unique in that it was first constructed as
a mosque and then later converted to Christian use.
Our program this morning
will also include a visit to Villa Malfitano, by special
permission of the Whitaker Foundation. Villa Malfitano
was constructed in the late 19th century by the
archaeologist, botanist, and ornithologist – Joseph
Isaac Whitaker.
The Villa is surrounded
by gardens containing plants that Whitaker collected
from all over the world. There is a marvellous variety
of tropical, sub – tropical and Mediterranean plants
here, including the rare blue palm Butia Capitata.
Lunch (not included)
After lunch we will
continue to visit Palermo with the Cathedral, Quattro
Canti square, etc. Walk through the streets of the
historical center, and visit to the town's popular
Vucciria market.
We’ll visit also: The
Botanic garden of Villa Giulia. Opened in 1795, it is
perhaps one of the most important botanic gardens in
Eurpe. There are many exotic plants and trees here
including magnificent examples of Ficus Magnoliodes,
water lilies, yuccas, aloes and cycads.
Come back at the
port.

and Cefalu

Meet our driver and guide and departure for Cefalu, known
for it's long golden beach as well as for other monumental

preserves precious mosaics which adorn the apse and a
representation of Christ Pantocrator which can be discovered
inside the Cappella Paladina in Palermo and the Duomo in

probable residence of King Roger II. Of great interest is

the latter preserving the famous portrait of an unknown man
by Antonello da Messina.
