Day 2:
Romantic and luxurious
Capri - Small Group Tour
![breakfast](../tours/abruzzo/meal-b.png)
After breakfast, you will join a small tour group for the ferry
ride to the
Isle of
Capri, one of the most famous islands
in the world and no holiday to
Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast
would be complete without a trip to this
beautiful and sensual island. This tour is also a
relaxing way to ease into your vacation and get into the relaxed
vibe of the area.
For so small an island (about 4 miles long and 2 miles wide)
Capri has had much said and sung about it
and there is a lot to see and do on the island.
On
this tour, we set our sights high and start at the height of
the island at the gorgeous Villa
San Michele, built by Dr. Axel Munthe, a Swedish doctor who
wrote a best selling biography
of his time on Capri called
“The Story of San Michele” that tells of
his time on Capri. His villa was built with the remains of Roman
ruins and behind the villa there is a
beautiful shady garden with terrace offering splendid views of
the island.
Next, we descend to
Anacapri, which is
the chic epicentre of the Island's
life - buzzing with busy piazzas, stores, hotels, and restaurants. The main square Piazza
Umberto is overlooked by a beautiful white church
and several open-air cafes where you can rest
awhile before having lunch (at leisure).
Leading off the main square in Anacapri there are medieval
alleyways and other squares surrounded by arcades full of shops
selling the handicrafts of island, clothing, jewellery
made from coral and gold, shoes and ceramics.
We will also take time to admire the colourful gardens of Augustus
overlooking the famed Faraglioni Rocks and Marina Piccola where
the actress, Gracie Fields, once lived. There is free time for you to go off
and admire the elegant boutiques, stroll along the cobbled
streets or simply relax on the beach. There is so much to see
and do on this tiny island paradise you will find it difficult
to leave.
You will return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Dinner at leisure.
Day 3: Pompeii Tour
- Small Group Tour
![breakfast](../tours/abruzzo/meal-b.png)
After breakfast, your driver/guide will come to pick you up at
your hotel. Today another small group will be visiting the
incredible ruins of
Pompeii.
Following the eruption of volcanic Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Pompeii lay buried and forgotten
until it was discovered in the 18th century.
This is a full day tour. Good footwear
and definitely your
camera are in order.
The town is high on the list of "must sees" when you visit the
Amalfi Coast so your guide will take you at a leisurely pace through
what were once the
ancient streets of Pompeii. You will see the Baths, the
city forums - the main piazza and market area of this Roman city
- and
the villas built by the prosperous Romans in this once busy
town. You will marvel
at the fabulously preserved frescos which adorn the walls and
floors of the Villas. Even if your interests do not lie in
history, this is an archeological site that will not fail to
impress you.
After the tour we will return to Sorrento where you will pick up
your luggage for the short trip to Positano where you will stay
for the next two nights.
Dinner at leisure in Positano.
Day 4: Positano -
Amalfi Coast Private Tour
![breakfast](../tours/abruzzo/meal-b.png)
After breakfast your driver/guide will pick you up for a private
tour of the Amalfi Coast. So be ready for a spectacular day
that will leave you spell-bound. Your tour will take you
to Amalfi,
Ravello,
Praiano and a few of
the other small villages that sit in the bays and coves of the
coast. You will have all the time you need to stop and
take in the breathtaking views. At Ravello you will be
able to spend time at the world famous gardens. You will
enjoy lunch at leisure in the old center of Ravello.
Dinner at your lesiure and overnight at a fantastic little hotel in
Positano.
Day 5:
Return to Naples
![breakfast](../tours/abruzzo/meal-b.png)
Today is your last day "on tour" so after a long
leisurely morning in Positano, your driver will pick you
up and take you to the ancient heart of
Naples - founded by
the Greeks in the 8th century BC - where you can spend
two or three hours marvelling at the the piazzas, churches,
palaces and parks that make this City so unique in the world.
Lunch is at leisure - but really, you can't come to Naples
without enjoying a generous portion of it's most famous food -
pizza!
The tour is over after lunch...so just let us know what you
would like to do next: stay in Naples for the night; venture
north or south on the train, or perhaps head home from Naples
airport. We'll be glad to assist in any way we can.
