On this tour we do a lot of walking - through some of the most scenic landscapes in the world - and while the trails are certainly not black diamond by any stretch of the imagination, appropriate footwear like running shoes or others that are supportive are absolutely necessary. Due to the nature of the trails however, we do advise that children who participate be over the age of 12 years and those who have difficulty with walking and steep heights choose alternative methods.
The area is unique in that it has been largely unreachable for centuries by land and the first road was only built in the 1970's.

Over a thousand years, the inhabitants transformed a hostile natural environment and created a close-knit network of terraces to create vineyards, olive groves and plant lemon trees, building the terraced land by hand with stones and earth. Monorails are used to ferry the workers and their harvest up and down the difficult terrain. If the terraced hillsides are not worked, they will quite literally slide into the sea.
