Directions:
- You can reach Refuge Dondena by the motorway A5 Turin-Aosta. Leave the motorway at the tollgate of Pont-Saint-Martin (exit for Gressoney and Champorcher), take the national road until you come to Bard. Just after Bard, at the roundabout, turn left, cross the Dora Baltea river and go past the village of Hône. Follow the winding road along the Champorcher Valley until you get to Champorcher. Soon after the centre of the village, take the right turning for the Mont Avic Park and Miserin. Follow the road and keep driving along the dirt road. Leave the car at Dondena (mt. 2.100) and continue on foot to the refuge which you can already see from the parking space. In a fifteen minute walk you arrive at destination.

REFUGE DONDENA: Former royal hunting house, the refuge is situated in a splendid position in the green Dondena valley on the edge of the Mont Avic Park. The refuge can easily be reached as it is only a fifteen-minute walk from the parking area.
REFUGE MISERIN: A former pilgrim hospice of the sanctuary “Madonna delle Nevi”, the refuge is situated on the shore of lake Miserin, in an exceptional position in the Mont Avic Park. It takes an hour walk to get to the refuge from the Grand Paradiso National Park.
The beauty of the alpine meadows around these two refuges and lake Miserin with the sanctuary “Madonna delle Nevi” of historical interest make this place one of the most attractive in the area. The two refuges, which are about two hours from each other, give you the chance to spend alternative and relaxing holidays and take very easy excursions (Contact Gianni Tamiozzo of the Parnassius and Apollo Trekking Club).
Flowers bloom between the end of May and August colouring Alpine meadows which are among the most luxuriant and significant of the Aosta Valley. The flora is quite varied thanks to the primitive composition of the soil and the widespread presence of calcareous schists of Piedmont group mixed with green stones. Near the noticeable Mont Glacier, rocks become harsher and more compact in the ultrabasic of Mont Avic where ophiolitic rocks outcrop.
The naturalistic aspects are suggestive and they have only partly been affected by human activities. The traditional agricultural and stock raising activities have always been present.
The fauna of the park includes all the wild animals living in the alpine area and there are the typical species of Alpine meadows such as chamois, ibexes and marmots plus all the minor fauna. Among the birds, you can find white-tailed ptarmigans, partridges and in the coniferous forests below Dondena there are black grouse.
