The family owned and run Villa Pambuffetti, situated just outside the gates of the medieval town of Montefalco, is immersed in an extensive private park with spacious gardens and shade trees. Many of the rooms have spectacular views of the surrounding hills, dotted with vineyards, olive groves and ancient Umbrian villages. Assisi, with Mount Subasio looming behind, and the towns of Bevagana, Spello and Foligno glitter in the distance.

My daughter and I recently visited
this wonderful small hotel for a few
nights and found a place that we will
look forward to returning to again - the
sooner the better. Of course, it's not a
place for children...or travelers who
relish the rush and buzz of a modern
resort. No, the Villa Pambuffetti is
unapologetically "old-school" - a quiet,
pretty, tasteful, comfortable place to
stay and perfectly (and
pleasantly) situated in Umbria's stunning
Sagrantino wine country. If you
like classy hotels, you'll
love the Villa Pambuffetti!

The hotel and it's dependence, with 11 double rooms and 3 suites, are housed in an 18th century palace that has been renovated with taste and distinction. It is much more impressive than the photographs indicate - very handsome on the outside and in.
Entering the hotel, one is warmly greeted in a hall featuring a cheerful fireplace. It appealed to the great Italian writer, Gabriele D'Annunzio, and it will appeal to modern travelers too!
The rooms and suites, all air conditioned and wonderfully furnished with period and antique furniture are immaculately appointed (ask for Room 7!) and bathrooms are impeccable. Guests also have access to a bar and lounge area and to a breakfast room below stairs, where the morning breakfast buffet is generous and satisfying. All services are delivered in a quiet, efficient and discreet manner.
The restaurant is one of the best in the area, although on the pricey side. The dining room is a large, high ceilinged hall that possesses a certain majesty and does not diminish the intimacy of the dining experience.

4 star experience at a 3 star price |
| The hotel has a "dependence" with an additional 4 bedrooms which are available at a lower price than the rooms in the main villa. Guests have full access to the hotel and all amenities...so it's great value for the money! |
Guests can also avail themselves of the pool in the back garden - either to take a refreshing swim or to take the sun during the clement months.
Weddings and other functions
The restaurant and garden is ideal for large catered functions - either indoor or out - and those contemplating marriage can arrange vows to be taken in the small, quaint and private chapel inside the grounds.
