Twenty minutes south of Perugia is this delightful small cottage. In the midst of an undulating landscape, it is indeed located on the side of a hill, with views over to the small town of Spina, complete with classic campanile. Charming and comfortable, this property would suit a couple or a couple with a child. And ideally it is for those who are looking for lots of peace and privacy from their holiday but, at the same time, not to be totally isolated. To this end the friendly owners, with the friendly dog, live in another house just up the hill and are on hand if guests require them. In fact Gaetano is a painter and would happily sell any of this paintings in Il Girasole, to which guests took a fancy.

Location
For days out, the provincial capital of Perugia is 20 minutes away with fascinating Assisi and Todi 30 minutes drive. Todi is particularly interesting: the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II has been the focus of civic life since a Roman forum stood on the same spot. The Palazzo dei Priori, Palazzo del Popolo and Palazzo del Capitano, all magnificently medieval 13th century buildings, house the town’s major museums. All this splendour is then encapsulated within the town’s double defensive walls, needless to say, one is medieval, the other Etruscan-Roman. Spina has two supermarkets, a bank and chemist a mere one and a half kilometres away.

Layout
Surrounded by olive groves, Il Girasole, together with the owners house, are both completely fenced in and access is through a large iron double gate. There is a small garden area near Girasole’s entrance, with signature sunflower plant, all naturally shaded by fir and pine trees. Ample parking. Only open in July and August, there is a public swimming pool just a 200 metre walk away. Delightful covered terrace, with small sink and barbecue, is great for outside dining. Since the property is on the side of a hill, entrance is into the higher of the two floors, into an immaculate kitchen equipped with fridge/freezer, single sink unit, 4 ring gas hob and gas oven. Delightful double aspect sitting room with single sofa bed and French windows out to terrace. Stairway down to lower floor and one twin/double bedded room with door to outside. A shower room, WC etc. Walk-in cupboard/utility room.
