In the heart of Italy, between Umbria and Tuscany, Trasimeno Lake is surrounded by rolling hills: the most important of these is Monte Solare, famous since ancient times for its Sun worshipping cult. Here in the green of the olives, vines and woods on a large wooded estate with magnificent gardens is an ancient patrician villa and its centuries old farmhouses were converted into a luxury hotel in 1989.
Main villa
Over the years the Villa has been a noble residence and a base for the important agricultural work of the farm. Its architecture dates back to 1780 and it retains its unaltered original characteristics: large fireplaces, frescoes, ancient cotto floors and period furnishings.
Coming through from the Italian garden the entrance opens onto the Reception, the Loggia Room, and the Quattro Stagioni Room, the latter two used for the Restaurant.
The Turchetto (Turquoise) Room, named for the dominant colour of the furnishings, the Stemmi Room, eight classic bedrooms and two suites are situated on the upper floors.
The closed roof terrace with its magnificent views also hosts an internet point for Guests. The Villa and surrounding gardens provide wireless connection.
Limonaia Apartments
The classic bedrooms have either a double bed or two single beds.
Each comfortable bedroom has a mini-bar, safe, television with satellite channels, telephone with direct external line, adsl internet access, air conditioning and heating, with showers, hair-driers and magnifying mirrors in the bathrooms.
The suites are made up of a bedroom with a double bed and a separate sitting room with armchairs and a couch.
The formal Italian garden is decorated with large terracotta vases containing lemon and orange plants: to protect these plants in the winter months a lemon house, or limonaia, with large arched windows was built in around 1750.
An area of the limonaia has been made into four superior bedrooms, each made up of a spacious bedroom with double bed or two single beds and a comfortable reading area with armchairs. Each bedroom offers a high degree of comfort: mini-bar, safe, television with satellite channels, telephone with direct external line, adsl internet access, air conditioning and heating. Each bathroom has a bath and shower, a hairdryer and a magnifying mirror.
The rooms are level with the garden and each room has its own terrace with wrought iron chairs and table.
Casa di Gelsi Apartments
An engraving in the stonework indicates that the farmhouse was built in 1639. The farmers who lived here planted mulberry trees (gelsi) around the house - trees once used for raising silkworms and that are now ancient and majestic. There are five suites on the two floors, two of which are dedicated to offering hospitality to families with one or two children.
The suites are made up of a bedroom with double bed or two single beds and a separate sitting room with armchairs and a couch: traditional furnishings with Montefalco fabrics and a high degree of comfort with a mini-bar, safe, television with satellite channels, telephone with direct external line, adsl internet access, air conditioning and heating, with shower or bath, hair-drier and magnifying mirror in the bathrooms.
Olivaia
The original agricultural use of this two storey farm house is immortalized in the fountain made with a round mill stone situated in front of the building: the upper floor was used to store and dry olives while the ground floor housed the millstone and the “ziraia”, where the olive oil was stored in large terracotta urns.
There are four superior bedrooms on the two floors, each made up of a spacious bedroom with double bed or two single beds and a comfortable reading area with armchairs. Each bedroom offers a high degree of comfort: a mini-bar, safe, television with satellite channels, telephone with direct external line, adsl internet access, air conditioning and heating. The bathrooms are equipped with showers, hairdryers and magnifying mirrors.
A classic bedroom on the ground floor is available for differently-abled guests (on request).
Olivi Apartments
Separated from the Olivaia by a charming path with cotto steps, Olivi is a delightful stone house surrounded by centuries old olive trees that are still cultivated, and as enchanting as living sculptures.
