The Pensione Bencista, run by the congenial Simoni family, is nestled into the hills above Florence in Fiesole. It is a more-than-amiable place to stay - above the fray of Florence, but with easy access for daily excursions.
The Pensione is unpretentious - comfortable in the way of a well kept old home. The lobby and lounge areas have an old world feel, due primarily to the Victorian style furniture - with dark woods and plush upholsteries. The gardens and terraces (offering excellent views of Florence and beyond) are well tended and amiable - one can always find a shaded area for reading or snoozing - making the Pensione an unhurried and supremely pleasant place to stay.
Book well in advance, especially if you want a room with a view of Florence; prices are done on a half board (breakfast + one other meal basis). Meals are sumptuous Tuscan style meals...home-cooked and delicious.
