The Fattoria di Maiano, the origins of which go back to the fifteenth century, boasts an enviable position in the green hills between Fiesole and Settigano, just 5 km from the old city centre of Florence.
A completely organic agricultural estate, the Fattoria extends over a surface area of 300 hectares with over 20.000 olive trees. The olives, of the frantoio and moraiolo varieties, are gathered by hand between November and December and pressed in the estate mill. The product that derives some is mainly given from the Laudemio an excellent extra oil vergine from the guaranteed nutrizionali property.
Accommodation is offered in apartments located within the estate, which have been carved out of ancient rustic homesteads and several of the former convent buildings. Recently renovated in respect of the original architectural style, the apartments are authentic country dwellings in terms of style, peace and panoramic views. Don't let the opulence of the estate make you think twice - these apartments are very well priced for their quality and location.
In the summer months, guests can enjoy the use of the lovely swimming pool, located in the gardens of the Fattoria, commanding a truly matchless view over the surrounding countryside. There is also an intensive programme of activities to choose from: cookery courses, art and restoration courses, guided tours of the olive mill and the Villa di Maiano, tastings and discovery tours of Tuscany.
Located in the heart of the Fattoria are the sala del convitto formerly the convent refectory, the Sala Olivaia a storeroom where the olives used to be stored before milling and the fifteenth-century cloister where the attention of the visitor is immediately captured by the fresco of the “Madonna della Misericordia” by Spinello Aretino. Today, the rooms and the cloister which several of the holiday flats give onto, are used on request for working meetings, birthday parties, photo sets… and then during the summer season they become the perfect backdrop for the performances of the “Stagioni in Fattoria” festival.
Also in the heart of the estate is the La Terrazza restaurant complete with panoramic terrace and welcoming internal rooms with wood decor and fireplace. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and offers the typical dishes of Tuscan cuisine, as well as a well-furnished wine cellar.
Just a few meters from the Fattoria is the Villa di Maiano, the ancient mansion house that dominates the entire estate. The villa, which has been the set for numerous films including “Tea with Mussolini” by Franco Zeffirelli and “Room with a View” by James Ivory, has all the features of a private residence: the magnificent rooms (Tapestries Room, Red Lounge, Old Dining Room, Carriage Room and Billiard Room) with their original decor and furnishings, the park with its vast terrace overlooking Florence and the Italian-style garden retains intact the charm of its past splendour and today are now utilised for elegant events of an exclusive flavour.
