The hotel was once an antique palazzo in 1890. Thanks to its great central position you are able to reach many beautiful places that this rich Tuscan town offers just a few steps from the front door. There is the Museo Etrusco, the Teatro Romano, the Pinacoteca (Art gallery) with its many admirable works of art by Rosso Fiorentino and the famous Porta all'Arco.Among its many illustrious guests we remember most of all the English writer D.H. Lawrence and Gabriele D'Annunzio, in which he describes Volterra as the "city of wind and boulders" and is engraved on a stone slab at the entrance of the hotel.
A movie troupe, including the young Claudia Cardinale and the charming Jean Sorel of the famous 60's film "Vaghe Stelle dell'Orsa" by Luchino Visconti were also guest here.
The hotel offers a panorama without equal and is characterized by an ancient structure “with thick walling” that give it an ideal ambience for relaxation and peace.
The principal characteristic of this hotel is that there is not one room that is the same.
Every detail is personalized in a different way with taste and harmony, with absolute respect to the antique structure of the building, while being furnished with all modern comforts.
Some rooms still have their high vaulted ceilings almost as if to remind us of the importance of space, offering the occasion to experience an original and pleasant sensation.
