Only 300 meters from the town centre of Montepulciano, in a very green and quiet area, surrounded by olive trees rises an old stone farmhouse. It originated from an ancient stone farmhouse, recently reconstructed and divided into 4 apartments, in one of which the owners live. These are all independent and furnished in the old "country" style as it was in those days.
With a pleasant homely conduction and open all year , the entirely renovated building is divided into apartments of different sizes. Each apartment is independent, very comfortable, furnished in the old "country" style and equipped with a typical fireplace or wood stove to recall the atmosphere of the past.
A charming private pool is placed at our guest’s disposal, who can also make use of the wide space outside well-equipped with tables, chairs, deckchairs and barbecue. Our pool is situated so that you can look out at the garden, olive trees and the beautiful surrounding area and it’s perfect to take a dip or just to relax.
Fontecastello is the ideal place to spend a completely relaxed holiday and in touch with nature.
The guests can also taste wine and oil of our local production.
Fontecastello is a pleasant place for everybody. You can go for a walk or cycle along the quiet roads surrounding the farmhouse. For those, who love practicing sport, there are public tennis courts just 200 meters far away; and for those who love taking care of their body, you can visit the thermal establishment of Montepulciano.
The owners will do everything to make your holiday as pleasant as possible.
We offer our guests satellite television, fireplace (excluding apartment "La Loggia" where you will find a typical wood oven), independent central heating and plenty of outside space where you can eat, sunbathe or just relax in the shade under the pine trees or around the swimming pool.
You can walk or cycle along the very pleasant, quiet roads surrounding Podere Fontecastello. There are public tennis courts just 200m away. Just 3 km away you can find Sant'Albino, famous for massages, facials and therapeutic treatments with sulphur water. Not to be missed are some of the most beautiful towns and villages in Tuscany. Pienza, the city of Father Pio II (Papa Pio II); Monticchiello, a small village where traditional comedies are re-enacted during August; Montalcino, very famous for its excellent Brunello wine; Bagni Vignoni, a small thermal place very well known for its hot water baths (pool open also during winter); Siena, where the "Palio" takes place twice a year (2 July and 16 August) which consists of a horse race in the main square; at just 20 km away you can visit lake Trasimeno.
In Montepulciano, famous not only for the wine tasting of "Vino Nobile" but also for a lot of things to see. You can walk up to the top, to the Town Hall and main square "Piazza Grande" where "Bravio delle Botti"(a barrel race) takes place the last Sunday in August, when the competitors have to push a barrel uphill. The city is divided into "contradas" each with their own history, colours and costumes. August is an especially exciting time to witness their displays. |
