This is a really unusual property – a beautifully converted grain silo, towering over farmland that was reclaimed from being marshland by Mussolini in the 1920s. It is a fully equipped cylindrical house 20 minutes by car or train due west of Rome. The wonderful sandy beaches of Maccarese, and pine-covered Fregene, are not 10 minutes away.

Nido d’amore means love nest and that’s exactly what the friendly owner has achieved – a romantic and stylish hideaway for a couple who also wish to be on the doorstep of one of the most romantic cities on earth. Renovated from top to bottom in 2001, the interior is immaculate and there are insect screens on all windows.

Location
Rome’s two international airports are just 15 and 45 minutes away so Il Nido d’Amore is certainly a very attractive short break option if clients wish to avoid Rome’s high hotel costs. However, the proximity of Leonardo da Vinci airport does mean that there is some intermittent aircraft noise. Maccarese rail station is just 2˝ kilometers, from which frequent cheap trains go to St Peter’s, Trastevere and the main central Termini rail station. A supermarket, shops, bank and chemist are a mere one kilometer away.

The walk-round garden is completely fenced-in and illuminated. It is mainly gravel with plum, lemon and apricot trees. A lovely covered dining area to the rear, with farmland views, is furnished and has a large barbeque and sink. Children are not allowed at this property because of the circular design and lack of interior stair banisters. A 100 metre driveway then right through iron gates into a parking area.
