Villa Marinella has
belonged to the same
Milanese family over the
last 150 years and was
used as a summer
retreat, to get away
from the warm and sticky
town of Milan during the
summer.
It is an exquisite home
and rather unique as it
is directly situated on
the waterfront. From
every window and the
garden you have a
breathtaking view over
Lake Como and mountains,
of which you will never
get tired.
Villa Marinella makes
part of a cluster of
houses, which surrounds
the castle of Corenno
Plinio. This castle was
built in early medieval
times and was a look out
post for invaders which,
at that time, travelled
by boat from the Alps.
Due to its specific
location on a rock, it
overlooks a major part
of Lake Como. The name
of the village dates
back to the Celts and
Romans.
Villa Marinella was
built in the 16th
century and was
inter-connected with the
castle. To reach the
house you have to walk
some 60 steps down from
the public parking
(comfortable shoes and
lightweight suitcase!)
Corenno Plinio is on the
north east coast of lake
Como, in between Varenna
and Colico.
Today it has been
wonderfully renovated,
lots of family antiques,
kitchen and bathrooms
are modern, central
heating. On the ground
floor is a small
courtyard, entrance,
dining and living room,
cosy corner around a
huge fireplace, fully
equipped kitchen, small
terrace. On the first
floor are the two double
bedrooms and single
room. One en-suite
shower room, one
bathroom with tube, one
half bath.
From the terrace you go
to the gardens- on
various levels, all in
front of the house and
overlooking the lake and
down to the small strip
of beach which is partly
gravel-rocky.
