General
Parts of Abruzzo seem to
have some of Italy’s last
wildernesses. Sparsely
populated, there are many
quiet places where the wild
landscape exerts strong
influence. Ramshackle hill
towns cling to the sides of
high mountains,
semi-abandoned and poor, and
the endless tracks of the
forest and rich fertile land
remain as if untouched by
time. Sheer simplicity. Casa
Caprafico is in an isolated,
quiet situation surrounded
by cultivated wheat and
barley fields, olive groves
and to one side rise the
magnificent mountains of the
Maiella. A massif of 61
peaks and heavily forested
valleys with more than 2,000
plants, they are popular
with birdwatchers, walkers
and climbers. A truly
amazing landscape. The house
has been well renovated and
is now three apartments,
each with its own entrance.
They are extremely prettily
furnished, comfortable and
well presented. The
English-speaking owner lives
not too far away and so is
available for guidance.
Location
The village of Guardiagrele
is ten kilometres away for
all practical shopping, and
some wonderful restaurants -
you won’t believe the low
prices! Sulmona is a
medieval town in this region
and well worth a visit. It
was birthplace of one of the
greatest Latin poets, Ovid.
in 43BC. The cathedral has
been built over a Roman
temple, and its best
treasure is the palace of
the Annunziata. This
Northern part of Abruzzo is
well served by road links to
visit many towns and
villages.
Layout
All at ground level, the
entrance from the furnished
terrace is into a
sitting/dining room with
fireplace and convertible,
sofa divan bed. The kitchen
has cooking hob and fridge.
A twin/double bedded room
and a shower room with WC
etc.
