Welcome to Talamone, Tuscany,
Italy
Population:
13,765 (2001)
Talamone is by far the most
romantic town on Tuscany's
Etruscan Riviera. It is
also the most historic places on
this stretch of coast and
definitely worthwhile of a visit
if you are travelling from Rome
to Pisa or planning on having a
holiday in the area.
Surrounded by Torquoise water on
either side of the promontory
which the town occupies; with
magnificent stretches of
coastline, Talamone differs
considerably in terms of both
position and history from its
neighbours who in our experience
seem to lack the same magic that
inspires both romance and
relaxation that Talamone has.
There is no question why
directors of "Quantum of Solace"
the latest epic in the James
Bond saga, used Talmone as the
background to one one of the
films most beautiful scenes when
James Bond goes to his friend
Mathis' villa to find him
drinking white wine with his
beautiful Itailan girlfriend on
the terrace looking North to
Talamone. Here, James Bond
in this idyllic setting
persuades his friend to come
with him to Bolivia.
The cast of Quantum of Solace
were initially scheduled to
spend five weeks in Talamone.
Rumore has it that they ended up
spending two extra weeks here.
They are said to have fallen in
love with the location.
It's not difficult to see why.
Now, although the town has now
been showcased world-wide, the
area and the town itself remain
relatively unknown by tourists.
Only now starting to draw curios
travellers. Some of the
magnificent villas in the area,
have had more requests than
they've known what to do with
and we've been told by many that
the film is possibly the best
thing to happen to the area in
terms of boosting the town's
reputation. Sometimes it
takes Hollywood to put a place
on the map, but we can assure
you that unlike many other areas
in Italy, Talamone is certainly
not pretentious and is still
very well priced compared to
many of the more well-known
areas.
There are no shortage of things
to do and see in Talmone and in
the surrounding area, (but
again, I reiterate that making
Talamone your base on the
Etruscan Riviera is a good
choice becasue it so beautiful
and so central.).
Less than 45 minutes away, the
beautiful Terme di Saturnia, the
National Maremma park and the
Tuscan Archipelago are all
available for those that care to
know and enjoy some of the most
captivating areas in Tuscany.
