Once the home of the Duke of
Amalfi, Le Due Valli sits
high above the Amalfi Coast
and is uphill from the tiny
village of Scala, which is
perched above Ravello.
Luggage is brought to and
from the villa by donkey.
Unlike your bags, you will
have to park and climb 170
steps to the village on your
own (it’s an adventure!).
Le due Valli is on six
levels, four of which have
terraces. The pool is on the
ground-level terrace, along
with a wood oven, a barbecue
and a furnished area for
outdoor dining. Inside is a
mix of antiques, modern
furnishings and the owner's
interesting collection of
lamps. A maid can be
arranged when booking.
The 15 minute walk to the
center of Scala leads to a
grocery store, a cafè bar, a
restaurant and a butcher
shop. From Scala there's a
bus to Ravello and Amalfi,
and a hiking path leads down
to Amalfi in about an hour.
The cost of transporting
your luggage by donkey on
arrival and departure is
included in the price. For
10 Euros each way, you can
hire the donkeys to lug any
other things to the villa
during the week.
From Scala, Ravello is a
five minute drive away;
Amalfi: 20; Positano,
Salerno or Paestum: 60;
Sorrento: 90; Pompeii or
Herculaneum: 120.
