It is a monument of exceptional artistic and historical importance and has been during the centuries the center and symbol of Florence. The palace was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio. It became the Palazzo della Signoria in 1540 when under Cosimo de’ Medici the reigning family moved here. Vasari transformed it in regal residency with frescoes executed by artists such as Ghirlandaio, Bronzino, Francesco Salviati and Vasari himself.
